Surviving Mercury Retrograde with Clarity (and maybe pie)
“Freeze Your Credit, Bless Your Kitchen: A Realistic Mercury Retrograde Plan.
If you ask your ancestors for any advice, ask them for labor-saving tips!
Greetings, Curious Spirits!
I do have some evergreen Mercury Retrograde tips, and most of them are US-centered. First, digital and physical theft tend to increase during these periods. Set aside an hour (for the inevitable password changes, etc). Freeze your credit with the major credit bureaus. You can still use your credit cards even if your credit is frozen. If you want to take an extra step, also freeze your credit cards and only unfreeze them when you need to make purchases. Most credit card companies give you the option of flipping a “freeze” switch in their apps. Avoid identity theft by making it too much work to try.
Below is a calendar of practical activities to engage in to make the most of this Mercury Retrograde. The calendar isn’t chock full of spells this time. There’s enough pressure near the holidays, without making ritual a sudden burden. Channel that wild magick energy into communicating with your ancestors. Take some extra naps and see what happens in the dream space—center on giving yourself the love you needed as a small child. If you ask your ancestors for any advice, ask them for labor-saving tips!
9th. Look over your holiday card list. “Lose” the people you hate hearing from/about.
10th. If you do holiday letters, write the most unhinged Yuletide letter you can concoct. Close with “Happy Mercury Retrograde!” Explain nothing.
11th. Review the junk mail email account you use and add numerous filters.
12th. Check your kitchen appliances. Are they all in good, safe working order? Does anyone need a little love from a toothbrush and baking soda?
13th. If you do a harvest season meal such as Thanksgiving, pre-cook a few items you can freeze ahead of time, starting today. Old-fashioned cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and mashed potatoes hold up well.
14th. Forward all that semi-useful junk email to a junk mail account. You can then search for it when looking for shopping discounts as needed.
15th. Still have browser bookmarks? How many of those are still active? Go through and check them. Sort them into folders. Make sure to use what you’ve saved effectively.
16th. Find some stuff you’ve forgotten? It’s a good time to delete accounts and change passwords!
17th. When was the last time you went over your credit card charges with a fine-tooth comb?
18th. Go through your phone and look at every app you have on it. Remove anything you haven’t used in at least 12 months. Sort the rest into easy-to-navigate folders.
19th. If medical debt concerns you, take a look at your local hospital’s financial aid program. It’s often buried deep in the website where most people won’t look. Take some time to read the directions and set up the papers. If you make less than six figures, you may well qualify.
